Georgian Theatre
General Information
Acoustic, Indie, Folk, Blues, Jazz, Alternative - come see a little bit of whatever you enjoy at the oldest Georgian Theatre in the country.
The Georgian Theatre, is a 200 capacity venue managed and programmed by Tees Music Alliance. Opened as a theatre in 1766, the building underwent a range of uses up until 1993when it was handed over by landlords to Stockton Borough Council - who have worked with the Georgian Theatre since then to support a range of events.
The list of previous performers is huge. In addition to a multitude of home grown acts they have hosted the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Mystery Jets, The Kooks, James Blunt [oops!], John Cooper Clarke, Duke Special, UK Subs, The Cribs, Sean Ryder, Clint Boon, John Cooper Clarke, Athlete, Jack Penate, John Shuttleworth, Daisy Chainsaw, Lost Prophets, The Macabees... the list goes on!
Tucked away in a courtyard just off Stockton's riverside, The Georgian Theatre's unpretentious interior provides an intimate setting for an evening's entertainment - no glitz or glamour, just a good pint and some of the best original music to be found on Teesside.
Until recently, the venue was managed and promoted by Stockton Music & Arts Collective [SMAC] - a not for profit organisation which campaigned for a home to stage live music during the early 90's and were gifted the lease of this magnificent 18th Century space by its genuinely supportive local council owner, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
